Juniors team selection process

Below are the guidelines for the commencement of the 2017 pre-season and the process of

team allocation for all age groups from U8 through to U17:

  • All players will be re-assessed in the first 2 weeks of pre-season training

  • Teams for each age group will be split according to ability

  • Players who played last year for Essendon Royals will priortised for a place in their age-group. However, they too will be re-assessed like and allocated to the most appropriate team for their ability.

  • Every effort will be made to accommodate all players. However, with a number of registrations and our reliance on volunteers this will be difficult. If we do not have enough coaches or there are excess players at the end of the 2 weeks, some players may not get a spot on a team and will be invited to go on a waiting list.

  • The Club likes to acknowledge parent involvement as coaches. If a parent is coaching a team, their child will have a priority for a spot in that age group.

  • Any new players who have not yet registered online and turn up to pre-season training for age groups already at capacity, will be unable to participate and asked to go on the club waiting list.

  • All parents, players and coaches will be required to sign a Code of Conduct before team places are allocated.

  • Player behavior and attitude will also be re-assessed during the trial period and taken into consideration for team selection.

  • The focus is your child’s development and this is best achieved when external distractions are minimised. If you are watching training please do so from the training ground perimeter. (the wooden fences that run between the car parks, roads and the training ground). Only parents who have previously agreed to actively assist the coach may enter the training ground.

  • Once the teams and coaches are finalised we may begin to move teams training nights. This is dependent on various factors such as coach availability, venue availability, appropriate times, etc.
