Essendon Royals would like to congratulate Imogen Caruso for her recent recognition with a Certificate of Distinction in the 2021 Women In Football awards.
Imogen was nominated for the Women In Football Volunteer of the Year award for her tireless efforts around the Essendon Royals Soccer Club.
A passionate advocate for women’s football in Victoria and in particular at the Royals, Imogen has also stepped up to assist with her photography skills, documenting our senior and reserves women’s sides throughout the year, as well as capturing some awesome shots of our junior community teams at Ormond Park and Cross Keys Reserve throughout the year.
Imogen’s daughter, Greta, plays in our club’s Under-10 girls’ team.
Imogen was nominated by Royals marketing and media manager Matthew Galea for her ongoing support and said he was delighted to learn that Imogen’s efforts had been recognised.
“Imogen has been a massive help around the club and a great support to me personally in ensuring that our club is able to showcase our amazing senior women’s teams and juniors,” he said.
“Apart from her hands-on role with being around the grounds capturing some great moments around the club, she is a consistent communicator and always ready and willing to contribute ideas that support initiatives that deliver greater diversity and inclusion through our football programs.
“We hope to be able to action many of the ideas she has brought to the table ahead of the 2022 season.
“She is exactly the sort of person that makes the Royals a great place to be.”
One such initiative Imogen championed and advocated for is the greater integration of the club’s senior women’s team with its junior girl’s teams.
Ahead of our senior women’s home match against Ballarat City, our senior women were joined by a collection of junior girls players, who also accompanied their senior counterparts onto the pitch pre-game.
The Royals thank Imogen for her tireless efforts around the club and look forward to welcoming her and her family back in 2022.
The Women in Football Awards were created by Women in Football Australia Inc, a national member-based charity established in 2019, that aims to ensure girls and women can contribute effectively to football at the level they wish to do so. The Women in Football Awards are supported by the NSW Government’s Office of Sport.
