Essendon Royals senior women’s squad bolstered with Marie Rampal and Linda Sawa additions

Marie Rampal and Linda Sawa are the latest senior women’s players to arrive at the Essendon Royals.

Rounding out the club’s recruitment drive on this side of the New Year break, Rampal and Sawa both join the club from fellow State League 1 North-West outfit Bundoora United.

Rampal brings great NPLW pedigree to the club, having spent four seasons at Calder United before increasing work commitments saw her step down into State League competition in 2021.

Having spent half a season in State League 1 with Bundoora, Rampal said she was seeking a fresh challenge with the Royals.

“It’s something fresh and new, so I’m looking forward to playing with a new bunch of girls and hopefully enjoying some success along the way,” she said.

Sawa will provide a familiar face, also joining from Bundoora.

Very familiar with the rigours of State League 1 football, having also previously played at Moreland Zebras, Sawa offers senior women’s coach Vince Battiato plenty of options on the flanks, comfortable playing as a full-back or winger on either side.

“I really do love the energy at Essendon,” Sawa said.

“The girls have all been so welcoming.

“Vince has big plans for the season and he’s been great to work with so far, so I’m just excited to see how it all pans out.”
