Essendon Royals welcome WNPL talent Cat Ioannidis to senior women’s squad

Essendon Royals have secured the signature of Cat Ioannidis from National Premier Leagues Women’s Victoria heavyweights Heidelberg United.

Ioannidis brings versatility and top-level experience to Cross Keys as Vince Battiato’s third signing ahead of the new season.

Having spent her entire career to date at Heidelberg, Ioannidis has already experienced NPL football, making 10 senior appearances in 2019.

Ioannidis said she was encouraged to join the Royals after several exciting conversations with coach Battiato.

“My first impressions of the Royals have been really, really great,” she said.

“All the girls are lovely and it’s a great community to be involved in.

“Vince seems like an amazing coach and I can’t wait for the season to begin.”

Ioannidis said the level of pre-season training had been tough but enjoyable to date and that she was sure it would provide the basis for a successful season 2022.

“It’s very tough at the moment. Everyone is trying to get fit again and I’m sure we’ll get there eventually,” she said.

“I think the way Vince really wants everyone to be involved stood out to me in the meetings I’ve had with him and at training.

“All of us know how we’re going to play and the communication is fantastic.

“For me, I just want to be trying 100% all the time. It doesn’t matter what league or level you’ve played prior, you still need to work equally as hard in the next challenge.”
