Essendon Royals have secured the services of Anthony Ramzy, who arrives at the club from NPL2 outfit FC Bulleen Lions.
A mainstay in the various NPL Victoria competitions since their inception, Ramzy has represented Box Hill United, Northcote City, Whittlesea Ranges as well as the Lions.
Ramzy, who plays as a wide forward, represents the first new player to join the Royals senior men’s squad in 2022 and said the club had made an instant impression on him.
“I love it here. I knew a bit about it being good friends with Davey [Van’t Schip], ‘KK’ [Kristian Konstatinidis] and Leigh [Minopoulos]. Most of the boys I know here from either having played with or against them,” he said.
“They’ve all said really good things about the club and that was all I needed really.
“The atmosphere at this stage of my career is really key and that’s why I’m here.”
Ramzy said he was excited for a new challenge in his career, having exclusively played in the NPL divisions.
“The boys have told me a couple of things about how the State League is to play in. I know that there will be teams that are very tough to play against.
“But in terms of Essendon and the way they play, I know they want to play good, tough football.
“It’s not going to be a walk in the park, but that’s an appealing factor too because the aspirations of the club are to go up and the expectations are high and I’m not taking that lightly.”
Ramzy said the opportunity to finally work with Royals senior men’s coach Vitale Ferrante was another important factor in joining the club.
“I’ve worked against him a lot,” he said.
“That voice…I can still hear it from the days playing against him.
“I’ve only heard incredibly good things from the boys who have played under him and I’ve always admired his work from afar and the way his teams play for him, so I’m excited to work with him.”
Ramzy and his trademark pearly whites will be a welcome addition to Cross Keys Reserve in 2022.
