Essendon Mazda Coach’s Comment: Ferrante pleased with progress

Essendon Royals Senior Men’s Coach Mick Ferrante says his side needs to keep its focus ahead of today’s visit from Corio SC.

An important win in tough circumstances against Brimbank Stallions at Club Italia last week, combined with results elsewhere has put the Royals in a great position with five games to play.

“The win last week was good, particularly having to come from behind,” Ferrante said.

“But we know it’s just one more step on the road that still has a fair way to go.

“It’s tight, so we need to stay on our game.”

The Royals had a tough time of it against Corio last time out, losing 3-0 after two red cards.

That game was the last time the Royals have lost this season, but Ferrante said the circumstances of that particular game were a one-off.

“To be honest, I don’t see that game as the turning point this season,” he said.

“That was a bit of a one-off with the two red cards.

“I think for us, the turning point was the Keilor Park game when we let a 2-0 lead slip. That was a big wake-up call for the boys, and we’ve been very good since then.”

The Royals kick-off against Corio at 3pm at Cross Keys Reserve.

The Reserves will play at 1pm in a crucial first versus second clash.
