The Essendon Royals are going up!
The Royals Senior Men and Reserves enjoyed a hugely successful day out at Keilor Park on Saturday, winning 5-0 and 5-1, respectively.
The wins mean two things:
For the Seniors, promotion to NPL3.
For the Reserves, a three-point lead at the top of the table with a healthy goal-difference advantage over second-placed Corio with just one game to play.
The result?
The Royals are on the precipice of an incredible end to the season with two senior promotions and two Reserves premierships between the Senior Men and Women’s teams.
The full-time whistle at Keilor Park Recreation Reserve was greeted with elation from the sizeable travelling support after another outstanding performance from Mick Ferrante’s side.
The goals came via Will Abbot (2), Luca Santilli, Nobuyuki Usui and Graham Kelly.
The Royals were 3-0 up at half-time, as Abbott proved an absolute menace at set pieces scoring the second and third goals, with the second coming via Santilli following a lovely flowing team-move that culminated in a selfless assist from Joshua Markovski.
In the second half, the unplayable Usui added a fifth, before Kelly capped off the win with the fifth.
