The Essendon Royals are excited to announce the signing of New Zealand footballer Rosie Wild. Wild, who typically plays as a centre-back but can also play in midfield, brings a wealth of experience to the team.
Wild has enjoyed an accomplished career in New Zealand, where she was a key contributor to Wellington United’s recent Kate Sheppard Cup win. She also has extensive experience playing in the national New Zealand league.
Transitioning to Melbourne, Rosie was excited to get back on the field after a few months off and reached out to the Royals, where she found a team that was both welcoming and competitive.
“So far, so good,” she said of her transition into the Royals set-up.
“The girls have all been really nice and welcoming, which was the main thing for me.”
The team’s structure, as well as coach Vince Battiato’s outlook and focus on success, were major factors in her decision to join the Royals.
“Vince’s obviously got a great structure within the team, and I’ve been impressed with the outlook that he’s got and how competitive he wants to be this season,” she said.
“That was a really big push for me. I’m wanting to succeed here, and it seems like this club, and these girls are going to be my best option to have that success.”
Wild will be a valuable addition to the Royals, who are fresh off promotion in 2022 and will be competing in the VPLW in 2023. Her versatility and experience will be a huge asset to the team as they aim for success in the coming season.
We welcome Wild to the Essendon Royals and look forward to seeing her on the field.
