Essendon Royals welcome trio of signings, Mikaela Jurcic, Kirstina Colina and Filomena Delic

The Essendon Royals have secured three of the VPLW’s most exciting talents, with the trio of Mikaela Jurcic, Kirstina Colina and Filomena Delic all joining Vince Battiato’s squad ahead of Season 2023.

The trio, who played out 2022 with VPLW rivals Melbourne Knights, bring tried and tested experience in this division to the club and offer depth and versatility across the defensive, midfield and attacking lines.

Jurcic said the style in which the Royals gained promotion from State League 1 to VPLW made the club an attractive proposition for her and her teammates, who made the jump to Cross Keys Reserve with her.

“The success the girls had last year was huge,” she said.

“They did really well in State One, and we’ve come to try and help keep that continued success this year.”

Colina said it was great being able to arrive at the Royals with some familiar faces but was delighted with the reception she had received from her new teammates as well.

“Everyones been super welcoming for us,” she said.

“It’s been easy to gel in so far, and the coaching staff has been fantastic.”

Delic said the attention to detail within the Royals camp was a big step up from her previous experiences.

“I like how everything is structured and planned by Vince and his team,” she said.

“He knows what he’s doing and what his goals are for us as a team and as individuals.

“I think that’s so important, that everyone gets worked on at that individual level, and everyone knows if they need help with anything, they can get it.”
