As the Essendon Royals head into Round 2 of their NPL3 campaign, senior coach Mick Ferrante reflects on their Round 1 clash against North Sunshine Eagles and looks forward to the upcoming game against Nunawading City FC.
Ferrante acknowledges that this season will likely be highly competitive, with each game promising to be tightly contested. “I’m expecting a competitive game, and judging by the results from last week, it’s going to be a very tight season week in, week out,” he said.
Ferrante reflected on the Round 1 clash and shared his thoughts on the outcome, saying, “Last week, the result didn’t go our way in a match against a strong opponent and difficult conditions for both sides. I think on a different day, we could have won that game, and a draw would have been a fair result. We were disappointed to come away with a loss.
“The match proved that a mistake here and a missed chance there can lead to a loss. We need to eliminate our own mistakes,” he said.
The coach is also aware that the margin for error becomes slimmer as the team faces better-quality opponents in the higher leagues. “We need to eliminate errors and make sure we’re on top of our game,” Ferrante emphasised.
The match kicks-off at 3pm at Mahoney’s Reserve.
