Essendon Royals confirm key re-signings of Leigh Minopoulos, Mo Abbas and Zena Bugali

Essendon Royals Senior Men’s team is proud to announce the resigning of three key players for the 2023 season. Leigh Minopoulos, Mo Abbas, and Zena Bugali have all committed to staying with the Royals, ensuring the team will continue to have a strong and dynamic squad.

Leigh Minopoulos is a forward with an outstanding pedigree in Victorian football. Despite an injury-hit 2022 campaign, he remains one of the players coach Mick Ferrante can rely on to make a game-changing difference. Minopoulos has completed a strong pre-season program to be right for Season 2023, and the Royals are excited to see him in action.

Mo Abbas is a versatile, young midfielder capable of playing in the centre of the park or on the wing. With plenty of run and a commitment to his football development, Abbas has been at the club since 2020 and will be looking to take further steps forward this season. Despite being absent for parts of the 2022 season, the Royals are confident that Abbas will play an important role for the team when called upon this year.

Zena Bugali is a hard-working midfielder who was a quality addition to the squad midway through the 2022 season. He played his role in helping the Royals achieve promotion last year and will once again be a key part of the overall squad in 2023. The Royals are thrilled that Bugali has decided to continue his football journey with the team.

The Essendon Royals Senior Men’s team is excited to have these three talented players resign for the upcoming season. With Minopoulos, Abbas, and Bugali on board, the Royals have maintained a fantastic sense of continuity from the 2022 promotion squad and ensured the depth of the first-team squad.
