Battiato: Support this incredible squad as they chase Nike FC Cup history

As Essendon Royals prepare for a crucial quarter-final clash in the Nike FC Cup against Casey Comets, Coach Vince Battiato urges the squad and fans to stay grounded and focused. Despite having already defeated Casey Comets 3-0 in the VPLW recently, Battiato insists that past victories guarantee nothing for this pivotal Cup match.

“Our mindset is always strong. We go into every match completely prepared, so our expectation is always to come away with a favourable result. Still, we never lose sight of the fact that every win is earned and that just because we have beaten Casey Comets in the league, that’s no assurance of a win in the Cup,” Battiato said. “We will still need to deliver when it matters.”

The Royals have shown their strength and resilience in this competition, managing to overcome higher division opposition, having beaten NPLW side Bayside United in the previous round.

Battiato believes such experiences foster a robust belief within the team.

“When you knock out higher opposition, you get a sense of belief that you can always get a result and that when things are tough out there, you will always back yourself to find the solutions,” he added.

Even though the Royals are coming into a bye weekend, Battiato confirmed it would not affect the team selections.

“We will pick the strongest team available for every match based on the opponent. This is no different. We will want to throw everything we have at Casey so we can make the last four. Having the bye just means that no one will be backing off in case of injury. We will leave everything on the pitch in the pursuit of a spot in the last 4.”

The Royals are on the brink of a historic semi-final spot, and the excitement is palpable. “The players are primed, excited and ready for every challenge every week. They work hard every week to get 3 points and to keep clean sheets and they know they are on the verge of something special. So they are pumped to make that happen but they also will not let that excitement get in the way of a proper, high benchmark performance they are used to,” said the Coach.

Battiato also called upon the Royals’ supporters to rally behind the team for this crucial quarter-final encounter. “This is an incredible squad of young women who represent this club outstandingly both on and off the pitch. They need your support out at Casey to ensure that the 12th player is on our side.”

As the Royals gear up for this high-stakes match, it’s clear that the team’s mindset and preparation are as strong as ever. The excitement and anticipation are building, and the team is ready to give their all on the pitch.
