
Essendon Royals began the second half of the season with a critical victory over North Sunshine Eagles, securing a much-needed three points in their NPL3 Round 12 encounter. The Royals secured a hard-fought 1-0 win, thanks to a decisive goal from Dean Clarke.
The match started with a brisk pace, with Anthony Ramzy firing the first shot of the day, albeit wide of the mark. Clarke, a constant threat throughout the game, also had an early opportunity but his shot drifted wide of the far post.

The second half saw the Royals continue their offensive momentum, with Usui making a great run forward early on. The deadlock was finally broken in the 74th minute when Clarke won a penalty for the Royals. Displaying nerves of steel, he coolly slotted the ball home to put the Royals ahead.
The drama continued as Kieran McDowell made a crucial save to protect the Royals’ lead, delivering a huge 1-v-1 save. Kelly had another big chance but was denied by the Eagles’ goalkeeper, who managed to keep the scoreline in check.
The final minutes were fraught with tension, but the Royals held on for a crucial 1-0 victory. The result is a testament to the quality and resilience of the team, who were up against a formidable opponent in North Sunshine Eagles.
Notable performances from Clarke, who was a thorn in the side of the Eagles’ defence all night. The midfield trio of Ramzy, Vince Lia and McEvoy proved tough to beat, whilst youngsters Lagana and Luke Croce all put in commendable shifts off the bench, helping the Royals secure this crucial victory. This win marks a promising start to the second half of the season and shows the potential of this Royals side to compete with the best.
