The Essendon Royals Football Club is thrilled to congratulate our Senior Women’s program on achieving promotion to the National Premier Leagues Victoria Women (NPLW) for the 2024 season. This marks a historic moment for the club, as our Senior Women will be competing in the highest level of competition available in the state.
Over the course of the 2023 season, more than 25 players have contributed to this incredible success, championed by Senior Women’s Coach Vince Battiato, his support staff and the wider Royals community that continues to provide incredible support for our Women’s program.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to every player, from those who have played almost every senior minute to the reserves who have pushed every senior player to be the best version of themselves. Your dedication, hard work, and team spirit have made this achievement possible.
We are especially proud to have offered opportunities to some bright young talents in our ranks. Teenagers Eliza Vargiu, Olivia Ristevski, Anastacia Samaras and Lola Ferrante have all impressed with their performances, showcasing the promising pathway being established for the club’s female footballers. Their contributions highlight the bright future of women’s football at the Royals.
With promotion to the NPLW, the club will be introducing a new senior team structure in 2024. NPLW Victoria currently offers senior football offers senior football and U19 football, as opposed to the senior and open-age reserves structure of VPLW and the State Leagues. This change aligns with our commitment to providing a clear pathway for our young players to progress through the ranks and compete at the highest levels.
As we look forward to the 2024 NPLW season, we are excited to announce that Expressions of Interest are now open for players seeking to join our NPLW program. We welcome players who share our passion for the game and our commitment to excellence.
In preparation for this transition, we have promoted our Under-18 team into an open-age State League competition for the 2023 season. This team is expected to be playing in State League 2 in 2024, and we welcome Expressions of Interest for this team as well. This move has provided valuable experience for our young players and helped them adapt to the demands of senior football.
If you are interested in joining our NPLW program, please fill out the form at the bottom of this article. We look forward to welcoming new talent to our ranks and building on the success of our Senior Women’s program.
Once again, congratulations to our Senior Women on this incredible achievement. We are proud of your hard work and dedication, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for women’s football at the Essendon Royals.
