Geelong Holiday Inn Men’s Match Preview: Box Hill test awaits Essendon on Friday night football

Essendon Royals’ senior men’s side are looking to continue the momentum generated from their first win of the season last week, when they take on Box Hill United at Wembley Park on Friday night.

Our weekly previews are brought to you by the Geelong Holiday Inn, as we look ahead to the upcoming rounds of action.

After an opening round stalemate away to Goulburn Valley Suns, Essendon notched up their first win of the season, when they took down Doveton.

Theofanis Tzelepis opened the scoring for the Royals after half-time, before Doveton pulled one back through Jason Quinian with only minutes to spare. However, there would be another twist in the tale as Graham Kelly stepped up late to score the winner in the 89th minute.

The win continues an unbeaten start to the campaign for the Royals, joining four other sides who are yet to taste defeat in the opening two rounds of the VPL2 campaign.

Their next test is against a Box Hill side, who claimed their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw with North Sunshine Eagles last Saturday, bouncing back after a 3-0 loss in the opening round to Pascoe Vale.

Royals will be without speedy attacker Jordan Adeyemi as he serves the final game of a two match ban, while Lawrence Milanzi is set to miss more time through injury.

Meanwhile, our Under 23s side will be in action the following day at 3 PM at Wembley Park.

The boys notched up their first win of the campaign with a 3-2 win last Saturday, after an opening round draw to the Suns.
