William Thomason joins Essendon Royals

Essendon Royals are pleased to announce the signing of William Thomason to their senior men’s squad ahead of the 2024 season.

Thomason arrives at Cross Keys after playing his junior football with Melbourne Victory, Port Melbourne Sharks, Western United, Melbourne Knights and most recently, joining the senior men’s squad at Oakleigh Cannons, where he made a handful of appearances in 2023.

The local Moonee Valley product is hoping his experiences elsewhere can help the side this season, as they chase success in VPL2. “I’m looking for a new challenge and Essendon came calling,” he said.

“I learnt a lot about what it takes to win and be successful (at Oakleigh), they are a club that has had a lot of success in the last few years and I think what I’ve learned will help the team this year. His arrival bolsters our defensive stocks going into the season, given his ability to play as both a left and right back, providing coach Michael Ferrante with added options at selection.

“It’s been really enjoyable… I’m sure we will have a red hot go at promotion so far,” he said. We can’t wait to see Thomason take the next steps in his overall game this season.
