Essendon Royals’ Junior Community wrap – 21 April

Essendon Royals’ junior community sides began their 2024 season over the weekend. Here’s a wrap up of some of the great photos and stories shared over the weekend.

A big thanks to the coaches and team managers who have shared their stories!

Optus Kick-Starters Term 2

The Term 2 of Optus Kick-Starters got off to a wonderful start!

We love having some of our Senior Men and Women actively involved in the program and it was great to see Jordan Adeyemi passing on his experiences to the next gen of Royals superstars.

Under 7s

It was a great effort by Under 7 Reds who played out a great first game of the season against Eltham and Under 7 White started the season with an entertaining game of their own as shown in the photo below!

Under 8s

Under 8 White played with great skill and enthusiasm against the Eltham Redbacks, with our Under-8 Yellows putting on a show in their first game of the season against Alphington, with some great finishing on display/

Ribbons for Raso

Our Under-8 girls made a social media stir, with the girls all donning red ribbons in their hair, just like one of their heroes, Hayley Raso.

Mum and proud Royals sponsor Danielle Mastro, of Lights Lights Lights, shared a story on Instagram which caught the eye of Raso herself, with the Matildas and Real Madrid winger sharing the photo on her own socials!

Under 9s

Essendon Royals’ Under 9 Red played a great game against Preston Lions, while our U9 Blue boys kicked off the year with some fine play against Banyule.

Under 10

The Under 10s Red defeated Brunswick City, demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship and determination throughout the game.

Under 11

Our Under 11 Girls were brilliant on the weekend, putting in an impressive performance against Preston.

Meanwhile, our Under 11 Blue side were were gallant in a tough contest against Brunswick Zebras. The boys rallied in the second-half and stood up despite the enormous task at hand.

Under-15s

Our Under-15 girls enjoyed a wonderful 4-1 win over Keilor Park, with three goals in the first 15 minutes ensuring a wonderful start to the season.

Taking inspiration from the Japanese national team that visited Australia for the 2024 FIFA Women’s World Cup, our girls left a classy message for their opponents thanking them for the contest.
