Essendon Royals’ senior men’s side return to VPL2 action this Saturday afternoon when they head south to take on Beaumaris at 3 PM (AEDT).
Our weekly previews are brought to you by the Geelong Holiday Inn, as we look ahead to the upcoming rounds of action in both the league and Dockerty Cup.
The boys continued their impressive start to the season with a 3-1 win over Riversdale in the Dockerty Cup last Thursday night, progressing to the next round where they will face FC Bulleen Lions.
Jordan Adeyemi returned from suspension with a bang, scoring the opener before teeing up Desire Nkondogoro to give the Royals the lead in the second-half after Riversdale equalised.
Watch the highlights from the win over Riversdale below.
Graham Kelly wrapped up the win, firing home Essendon’s third to secure passage to Round 5 of the Cup.
Now, the focus turns back to the league, where we are still unbeaten after three games with one win and two draws, and sit in sixth spot on the ladder.
Beaumaris, on the other hand, come into the contest off the back of four straight losses in all competitons, including a 2-1 loss in the Cup to Eastern Lions last weekend.
They’ve also been on the end of heavy defeats to Nunawading, Pascoe Vale and North Sunshine Eagles in their VPL2 campaign, and sit bottom of the ladder on goal difference heading into this weekend’s clash at Beaumaris Reserve – which is their first league game at home in 2024.
The Under 23’s will also be in action at 12:45 PM, as they look to return to the winner’s list against a Beaumaris side that won each of their opening three matches.
