Essendon Royals’ senior women will look to continue their brilliant run of form when they take on Boroondara-Carey Eagles at the Veneto Club on Saturday evening.
Royals made it three wins in a row with a comprehensive 2-0 win at home against fellow high fliers Heidelberg United, thanks to second-half goals from Ava Groba and Audrey Oastler.
The win keeps Essendon within three points of league leaders FC Bulleen Lions, with a game in hand against FV Emerging to come next month.
Watch the highlights from our 2-0 win over Heidelberg.
They’re also seven points inside the top four, as a result of the win against the fifth-placed Bergers, who were unbeaten under new coach Sven Samild heading into last weekend.
Up next is a clash against the Eagles, who are fresh off three straight defeats.
All three of the losses have come in shootouts, a 4-3 loss to Preston, a 4-3 defeat against Alamein and a 6-2 loss against Bulleen last week.
As a result, they are now 10 points outside the top four with eight games to go and need to get their skates on if they are to secure consecutive finals appearances.
Despite their recent struggles, they have been potent in-front of goals, led by Golden Boot leader Gabby Hollar who has 15 goals to her name, while Anais Josefski has scored eight goals.
2023 NPLW Golden Boot winner Kurea Okino has scored twice since returning in mid-season in Melbourne Victory.
Boroondara-Carey won the reverse fixture at Cross Keys 2-1, thanks to goals from Hollar and Josefski while Filomena Delic hit the scoreboard for Essendon.

Kick-off is at 5 PM, with the Under 20s in action at 2:45 PM.
Royals’ Under 20s defeated Heidelberg 2-1 last week and are in ninth place, while Boroondara-Carey sit bottom of the ladder.
