Essendon Royals strengthen goalkeeper union with arrival of Evan Markogiannakis ahead of 2025 VPL2 season

Essendon Royals are thrilled to announce the signing of experienced goalkeeper and returning junior Evan Markogiannakis to their senior men’s squad ahead of the 2025 VPL2 season.

Markogiannakis brings many years of experience in NPL Victoria to Cross Keys Reserve, having played for the likes of Avondale and Port Melbourne Sharks, where he spent two stints at the latter, including last season.

The goalkeeper also spent time in VPL1 with both Manningham United and FC Bulleen Lions.

Before all that, Markogiannakis was one of our own, representing the Royals for a number of years as a junior.

We love seeing our juniors return to play senior football at the club so we look forward to seeing Markogiannakis back at the club and ready to help the senior men achieve their goals in 2025.

Markogiannakis’ signing strengthens our goalkeeper union heading into the new campaign, joining Andre Russo as the senior men’s goalkeeper heading into the 2025 campaign.

His arrival is the club’s third new off-season signing, joining former teammates Vincent Nicoletti and Rashid Hayek.
