Luv A Duck Women’s Match Preview: Royals Seek Momentum Boost Against FV Academy

Essendon Royals travel to the Home of the Matildas on Saturday afternoon, looking to build momentum when they face FV Academy in Round 9 of the NPLW season.

Fresh off a confidence-boosting 3-2 win against Bentleigh Greens, the Royals will be eager to continue their climb up the ladder after a challenging run of games.

Last weekend, Emma Langley continued her impressive transition up front, scoring twice to make it three goals in her last two appearances.

Coach Vince Battiato will be hoping Langley can maintain her recent form, supported by the creative influence of Airi Fujiwara, who rediscovered her scoring touch with a stunning strike against Bentleigh.

The Royals currently sit 8th on the table, knowing that a strong result against the 10th-placed Academy side could put their season firmly back on track.

FV Academy, has had mixed fortunes this season, with results proving elusive despite some strong performances.

They have struggled for consistency, managing draws against solid teams like Preston Lions and Box Hill United, but suffering a heavy 5-0 defeat last week against FC Bulleen Lions.

Scoring has been an issue for FV Academy, with Ehva Gutszmit and Fiorina Iaria their only players to find the net more than once so far this campaign.

However, the Royals will still need to be wary – the Academy side always poses a tactical and technical challenge, especially at their home ground.

Essendon have displayed some excellent attacking football this season, but defensive solidity remains an area to address, particularly in crucial moments. The key to victory for the Royals will be balancing their attacking flair with disciplined defending.

Saturday’s fixture presents a prime opportunity for Essendon to gain valuable momentum as they enter a crucial phase of the season.

Kick-off is set for 3:00 PM at the Home of the Matildas, and a Royals win would certainly help them consolidate their recent improvement as the campaign gathers pace.
