The Essendon Royals are thrilled to announce that Vaughan Coveny has recommitted to the club as Head of Football for the 2026 season.
Since joining the Royals, Coveny has been a driving force in shaping the club’s football vision, bringing his wealth of experience as an NSL legend, 64-time New Zealand international and accomplished coach.
His leadership has been pivotal in raising coaching standards, developing pathways for emerging talent and fostering a high-performance culture across our junior NPL program.
Coveny is also highly regarded in Victorian youth football and has coached two different Victoria state teams to National Championship glory over the past two seasons.
The progress has culminated in all four of our JBNPL sides qualifying for Division 1 this season, while our Junior Girls have made great strides in their debut NPL campaign.
“It was quite an easy decision, to be honest,” said Coveny.
“Great club, great people, competitive teams across the board.
“It’s a community club, there’s a really good feel around the place, and it’s only getting better and stronger.”
Coveny’s recommitment ensures continuity and stability as the Royals strive for more success in 2026.
A reminder that Expressions of Interest for our Pathway programs (both boys and girls) are now open.
