Essendon Royals are proud to confirm that Mikaela Jurcic has re-signed for the 2026 NPLW Victoria season, continuing her leadership role at Cross Keys.
Jurcic enters her fourth season with the club and her third campaign in the NPLW, having been a central figure in the Royals’ rise and consolidation at the top level.
After arriving from Melbourne Knights ahead of the 2023 season, she made an immediate impact in her debut year, helping the club claim the VPLW Premiership and Championship double, along with victory in the Nike FC Community Cup.
Jurcic’s influence has only grown since. Over the past two seasons, she has carried the responsibility of senior women’s captain – a role she has embraced with authority, professionalism, and consistency.
She featured in every league match in 2025, anchoring a defensive unit that stood firm against the competition’s strongest frontlines. Her reading of the game, physical presence, and composure in possession have made her one of the most dependable centre-backs in the league.
“Mikaela is always reliable, always delivering consistent performances, and never really puts a foot wrong,” says head coach Jaiden Van Der Heijden.
“We’re excited to see our captain and leader take her game to the next level again this year.”
We’re delighted to have Mikaela leading the group again as the club continues to build.
