Essendon Royals are delighted to announce the signing of Akeisha Sandhu, who joins from South Melbourne ahead of the upcoming NPLW Victoria season.
An attacking full back or winger, Sandhu arrives at Cross Keys with an outstanding NPLW CV, having built a reputation as one the competition in her position.
After standing out for Alamein, Sandhu joined South Melbourne in 2020 and was appointed co-captain in 2023, leading South to the title in a thrilling upset victory over FC Bulleen Lions.
Sandhu herself gave South Melbourne the lead at The Home of the Matildas, curling in a stunning goal directly from a corner kick.
After a year at Calder United in 2024, Sandhu returned to South in 2025. She further cemented her name in club folklore in the Nike FC Cup Final against Heidelberg, converting the decisive penalty in the shootout.
Senior coach Jaiden Van Der Heijden welcomed Sandhu’s arrival, highlighting her leadership qualities and competitive edge as key assets for the squad.
“Akeisha is an exciting and experienced wide player.
“She’s got versatility, she’s been in the league for a long time now, and always gives 100% in everything she does.
“She’s going to be a great leader for the team.”
Off the pitch, Sandhu brings an equally impressive professional background. A qualified osteopath and Clinical Lead at AEM Health & Performance, she balances elite football with high-performance healthcare, adding a unique perspective to preparation, recovery, and professionalism within the playing group.
