Essendon Royals are on the board.

After two rounds of frustration and six goals conceded, Round 3 demanded a response. What arrived at the Serbian Sports Centre was not perfection, but it was character.

An early setback threatened to drag the Royals into familiar territory. Just six minutes in, Springvale White Eagles struck through Greg Siamoa, the former Green Gully and Brunswick Juventus forward finishing smartly to give the hosts the lead.

For a side that had already endured two difficult starts this season, the script felt uncomfortably familiar.

This time, though, the response was different.

The Royals steadied. They controlled possession, pushed their lines higher and began to ask questions. Jordan Adeyemi, energetic and direct from the outset, drove the tempo. His persistence earned its reward in the 29th minute with a moment of genuine quality. From a central free kick, Adeyemi bent a brilliant effort beyond the goalkeeper to level the match and shift the momentum.

The equaliser did more than restore parity. It restored belief.

From that point on, Essendon began to resemble the footballing unit they had promised to be. Dean Clarke drove the ball out from full back with confidence, working tirelessly in both directions and giving the side real thrust from deep. Adrian Zahra and Vince Lia locked down the midfield, disrupting Springvale’s rhythm and ensuring the Royals controlled the central battle.

The breakthrough came four minutes before the interval.

Adeyemi again proved central, receiving possession in space and picking out Josh Markovski with precision. Markovski made no mistake, finishing confidently to complete the turnaround and hand the Royals a 2–1 lead heading into the break.

It would prove decisive.

The second half belonged largely to Essendon. With Evan Markogiannakis assured behind a backline featuring Bradley Norton and Zac Kocankovski, the Royals limited Springvale’s opportunities while continuing to create their own.

Anthony Trajkoski and James Tieri provided width and energy, while Takumi Niwa added composure in possession. The only frustration was the failure to extend the advantage, as several promising passages went unrewarded.

But unlike previous weeks, there was no late collapse. No cruel twist. Just discipline, game management and a collective refusal to surrender.

After conceding inside ten minutes for the second straight match, the Royals could easily have drifted. Instead, they showed resilience, clarity and maturity.

The result delivers the club’s first points of the 2026 campaign. More than that, it delivers proof that this group can respond when tested.

The challenge now is consistency. But for the first time this season, the Royals walk away with reward for their effort.
