Gaffney Match Preview: Essendon Royals travel to Keilor Park in Women’s State League 1

By Jordan Cvitkovic

On the back of a breathtaking 12-0 victory, Essendon Royals will look to keep their winning streak going this week.

The Royals are out to continue storming through the Women’s State League 1 competition having put themselves in the race for promotion and just three points off league leaders Moreland Zebras.

The 12-0 victory the squad earned last round bumps them up to a +27-goal difference, scoring 32 and conceding 5 which is an average of 5.3 goals scored a game, the second-highest in the competition behind Moreland.

Although the club looks to be in a great position, no one will know better than coach Vince Battiato that the focus and desire will have to remain the same, particularly with only three points separating the Royals from La Trobe University SC who are currently sitting in sixth place.

Sunday’s opposition, Keilor Park, has had a slow start to the season only winning one game out of six and conceding 27 goals in the competition so far.

This stat insists that if the Royals can maintain their dangerous goalscoring form they could be in for a very successful afternoon.

However, nothing is set in stone and the Royals will know that nothing is won on paper.

Keilor Park looks to have a few players struggling with injuries this season as they have 6 players in their squad who have failed to make more than three appearances.

Keilor Park is currently sitting in eighth place which is third from the bottom in the competition which means every game will count and every point that is earnt is crucial for their season.
