Essendon Royals will be looking to continue their winning streak this Sunday when they welcome Bundoora United to Cross Keys Reserve on Sunday evening.
The third-placed Royals have been on an impressive run of form in recent weeks, winning their last four games.
Having scored 24 goals and conceding just one in that run of games, the Royals have significantly closed the gap on the front runners with just the two points separating them from second-placed Spring Hills and three points separating them from Moreland Zebras.
Bundoora United sit in seventh, but it’s a position that fails to showcase the number of close games Sunday’s visitors have been involved in.
With many of their games – including against the likes of Spring Hills – being decided by the odd goal, as demonstrated by their goal difference of -3, Bundoora is a team more than capable of taking points off the Royals at Cross Keys.
The Royals, however, will be confident that their best football will win the day.
Coach Vince Battiato has been keen to remind his players that despite the progress made, they remain in the chasing pack and can afford no slip-ups to keep pace with the front-runners.
The Royals are coming off a tough away trip to Keilor Park last week in a game that finished 3-0.
Rachel Alonso bagged two goals to take her into double figures for the season. With 11 goals to her name in the league, she is equal second in the competition scoring charts, one behind Moreland’s Cindy Lay.
Bundoora, on the other hand, went down 4-2 against La Trobe University.
In the earlier kick-off, the Reserves will be out to maintain top spot in the league against a Bundoora reserves side that has struggled this season.
The Reserves are three points ahead of the chasing pack of North Geelong and FC Clifton Hill and remain the only team in the State League 1 North-West Reserves competition with a 100 per cent record.
