Luca Simeoni is back at the Royals.
The Essendon Royals are delighted to announce the return of former Livorno player Simeoni for the remainder of Season 2022.
Simeoni played Serie A football with Livorno back in 2010, and has been playing professionally throughout the Italian divisions since, with the exception of his last stint at the Royals.
Simeoni played for Essendon in 2016, where his 10 goals in nine games helped secure promotion from State League 2 to State League 1.
Since departing the Royals, Simeoni has continued his career in Italy, most recently in Serie D with US Pianese, playing a big role in the club’s charge to the play-offs.
Simeoni has been at US Pianese since 2018, but with a return to Australia on the cards for family reasons, the well-rounded technician made clear his intention to return to the Royals.
At 31, Simeoni still has plenty to offer and the Royals hope he can give the club’s promotion tilt a boost with the Royals sitting in third place on the table with a game in hand on second-placed Sydenham Park.
Simeoni has been training with the senior squad this week and is in contention for selection for Friday night’s clash with Altona City.
Essendon Royals can also confirm the signing of Dimitri ‘Kappa’ Kapolitsas.
The young defender arrives following a sting in the lower leagues of England and is a former South Melbourne junior.
Kappa was named as a substitute last week against Sydenham Park.
The duo join Zenawi Bugali as the club’s mid-season signings.
Bugali has been a fantastic addition to the club’s midfield.
