Royals juniors taste futsal success

Our Essendon Royals U10s team entered the Football Victoria’s State Futsal Championships and were kept busy over the school holidays, competing with great success.

The team was split into 2013 boys who entered the U9’s comp & 2012 boys who played in the U10’s comp

Despite the vast majority of players being new to the sport, the U10s made the quarter-finals and the U9s took out the tournament.

Participation was organised by coach Anthony Magnacca & TM Rob Stipanic whose U10 team has been competing in the U11 kangas competition this season.

Reno Magnacca was named player of the tournament in the U9 competition.

The Royals played with great spirit and skill over the course of the tournament and beat a number of futsal-specialist teams in the process.

Coach Magnacca said it was pleasing to see the boys take to the sport so well and said it definitely gave all the players some new things to work on.

This was the first time most of these boys have ever played futsal and it took them a couple of games to get used to the rules early on but once they were in the zone and they were loving the fast pace end to end action,” he said.

“I think it was a great decision to enter them into this competition as it gives these young boys a different element to their game. It’s something we will definitely enter again next time.”
