Essendon Royals celebrate Female Football Month

The Essendon Royals are celebrating Female Football Month in style! To showcase their support of the growth and participation of female football, the Club has a number of exciting activities planned.

The Club will also be hosting a Female Football Day at Ormond Park on Sunday, February 19th. With the theme “Stronger Together,” this day will include a clinic hosted by the Senior Women’s team, open to existing female footballers and their friends who are looking to try the sport or join the club.

2023 is a big year for women’s football at the Essendon Royals, with the Senior Women now competing in the second-highest competition in the State, the VPLW. The Club is also proud to announce the addition of three new girls’ teams, including a new open-age Women’s team and two new junior teams.

This takes the total number of female football teams at the Royals up to 14 and means that over 30% of our playing membership is now female, highlighting the incredible growth the Club has enjoyed in this space.

One of the highlights of the month is the introduction of members and supporters to new players from the Senior Women’s squad. With three exciting new player announcements made on Feb 1, this is a great opportunity for the Club to showcase the talent and strength of their female teams.

Overall, the Essendon Royals are proud to support Female Football Month and the growth and participation of female football. With exciting events and new additions to the club, they are poised to make a positive impact on the sport and inspire more women and girls to discover a love of football.
