Kate Spitieri has signed with Essendon Royals Soccer Club, bringing valuable VPLW experience from Melbourne Knights to the team.
Spitieri is excited about playing for a team that supports women’s sport and encourages girls to play. “I was just looking for a team that really supports women’s sport and really encourages girls to play and, you know, motivates them to want to play as well. I guess having that support behind you is something I’ve heard Essendon does really well, so I’m excited to be a part of that culture,” she said.
Despite playing up front or on a wing previously, Spiteri is embracing her new role as a wing-back under the guidance of coach Vince Battiato.
“Usually, I play up front or as a winger, but Vince has me playing as a wing-back, but I’m enjoying it. I get the ball a lot more so I’m enjoying that,” Spitieri said.
Spiteri also had positive things to say about the club’s organisation and culture.
“The club has been really good. You come to training and you know what you’re doing and everything is so organised. I’ve only been here a couple of months, but the culture is good, and I think it’s shaping up to be a really fun year,” she said.
The Essendon Royals Soccer Club is delighted to have Spiteri on board and is confident that her skills and experience will be a valuable addition to the team
