Royals Bounce Back and Battle On: Coach Battiato’s Insight Ahead of Monbulk Clash

In the latest edition of our Women’s Coach’s Comment, Essendon Royals’ head coach, Vince Battiato, reflects on the team’s thrilling cup victory, maintains focus on the upcoming league game, and discusses the challenges and respect they hold for their opponents.

With the Royals currently sitting at the top of the VPLW ladder, Coach Battiato shares his thoughts and expectations for the upcoming clash against Monbulk Rangers.

The Bayside United Cup triumph left the Royals’ camp buzzing with excitement. Coach Battiato acknowledges the fantastic win and the enjoyable atmosphere that followed. However, he emphasises the importance of swiftly shifting the team’s focus back to the league campaign.

“We need to park that as we have a league game on Friday night, and every game is hugely important,” he asserts, highlighting the need to maintain the momentum and secure valuable league points.

Reflecting on the team’s preparation and belief during the Bayside encounter, Coach Battiato discusses the strong camaraderie among the players.

“There was never a moment out there that any player, on-field or bench, had any doubt that we’d come out on top,” he reveals. The resilience and character displayed by the Royals during the match exemplified their unwavering determination.

Looking ahead to the clash against Monbulk Rangers, Coach Battiato acknowledges the quality of the opposition. Despite Monbulk’s current struggles, he recognises the potential of any promoted side and the ability of teams to shine on any given day or night. “Every team in this league can take points off the others,” he affirms, emphasising the importance of showing full respect to each opponent.

Coach Battiato expresses his confidence in the Royals’ ability to deliver a strong performance. He reveals that the team is aware of the challenges they will face and that they have structured their approach to maintain consistency and focus throughout a demanding week.

“Although we focus on one game at a time, it would be stupid to not look at the fact that we have three big games in seven days,” he acknowledges.

“I’ve been lucky to have access to a tool like Track160, that the Royals have invested in, to be able to show me clearly just how much running and sprinting our players have been doing over the last few games, and we can make squad selections accordingly.”

As the Royals gear up for another exciting clash, Coach Battiato’s insight serves as a reminder of the team’s determination and unwavering belief in their abilities. With their eyes firmly set on securing vital league points, the Royals approach the Monbulk Rangers clash with respect, preparedness, and a collective desire to continue their successful campaign.
