This Saturday at 7:00 PM, the Cross Keys Reserve will be the stage for an intense battle as Essendon Royals SC takes on Geelong SC in Round 14 of the NPL3. The Royals, currently sitting 11th on the ladder, will look to leapfrog Geelong SC in the standings when they welcome them on their home turf.
Despite their current standing, the Royals have shown commendable improvements over the past two months, putting on performances that perhaps deserved better results. The struggle to convert chances into goals has been the Achilles’ heel of the Royals’ season, but the team is determined to turn the tide this weekend.
The last encounter between the two teams back in Round 3 saw a thrilling 2-2 draw. The Royals showcased their fighting spirit, twice coming back from a goal down with scores from Ryan McEvoy and a late penalty from Davey Van’t Schip.

Saturday’s game comes hot on the heels of a mid-week Cup game for Geelong SC, who now have to make their second trip to Melbourne in four days. Geelong lost 5-0 to NPL1 side Oakleigh Cannons fielding a rotated side, putting an end to their Cup campaign, and arrived at Cross Keys on the back of three league games without a win.
However, the Royals will be aware that this is a Geelong side similarly desperate to get their season back on track and will undoubtedly be putting everything into this game.
The Royals have shown signs of promise in recent weeks, drawing with Nunawading City FC and beating North Sunshine Eagles FC, both of whom were in the top three at the time of playing them.
The Royals are ready for the challenge and are eager to give their fans a performance to remember. Let’s hope for an exciting game and, importantly, a victory for the Royals.
Join us this Saturday at Cross Keys Reserve for an exciting evening of football. Come and support the Royals in what promises to be a thrilling contest. See you there!
