The Essendon Royals SC Women’s team is gearing up for a thrilling encounter against South Yarra SC in the VPLW Round 18. The match is slated to take place at the Ron Barassi Snr Reserve on Sunday, July 30th, with the first whistle scheduled for 3:00 PM.
The Royals have been a force to reckon with this season, currently perched at the pinnacle of the ladder with a commanding 38 points from 15 games. Their offensive prowess has been a sight to behold, with a staggering tally of 61 league goals. The attacking quintet of Rachel Alonso (17 goals), Ayano Koizumi (10 goals), Filomena Delic (9 goals), Yuri Sasaki (6 goals), and Rebecca Davies (5 goals) have been instrumental, contributing a combined total of 47 goals.
On the other side, South Yarra SC, currently occupying the 8th spot on the ladder, will be looking to put up a spirited fight on their home turf.
The Royals are coming off an 11-0 thumping of Glen Waverley last week, and will be looking to maintain that form his weekend.
South Yarra went down 4-1 against second-placed Brunswick Juventus last weekend.
A win for coach Vince Battiato’s side would see them maintain top spot.
With five games to play – including this one – the Royals are well-positioned to make 2023 a season to remember, but only if they can maintain their impressive form – a message that Battiato will be keen to ensure his team is well aware of.
