Junior Girls National Premier Leagues Update

The Essendon Royals would like to communicate the following update, with respect to our participation in the National Premier Leagues Women’s Competition in 2024.

Our Senior Women have soared to new heights, clinching the VPLW title in 2023 and securing a spot in the NPLW – the pinnacle of state female football. Their journey has been nothing short of inspirational, and we’re immensely proud of their achievements.

Despite our senior team’s success, Football Victoria has decided not to award new Junior Girl NPL licenses for 2024. While this comes as a surprise, it doesn’t dampen our spirit or commitment to our young athletes.

Exciting Developments in 2024

We’re thrilled to announce pivotal changes to our 2024 team setup, strategically aligning with our goal to secure a Junior NPL girls license in 2025!

Trials for Balanced Squads: We will conduct trials to assemble squads that are both competitive and balanced, ensuring a vibrant and rewarding season ahead.

Merit-Based Selection: Players will be chosen for top-level squads based on footballing merit and squad balance, ensuring every team is robust and competitive.

What If My Child Doesn’t Make the Top Squad?

For players currently in top-level Royals teams (Kangas or A’s) who do not make the highest-level squad after trials, they will be offered a spot in an alternative team (subject to availability and suitability).

The Royals is committed to supporting the growth of women’s football and will field second community teams in age groups wherever possible.

Our Unwavering Commitment

We remain steadfast in our dedication to every player, ensuring they find their place, grow, and develop with us. Detailed information regarding trial dates and processes will be shared soon.
