Essendon Royals are delighted to announce the signing of Emily Sutcliffe for the 2024 NPLW season. Sutcliffe, a talented forward, joins the Royals from Boorondara Eagles, where she played a pivotal role in their impressive campaign last season, finishing second in the league.
Sutcliffe’s journey to the Royals has been one of anticipation and alignment. “I had discussions with Vince last year when Essendon was in the VPLW. I was really impressed with the club’s direction and its positive outlook on promotion, which they achieved. It aligns well with my values,” Emily shared about her move.
Her decision to join the Royals was influenced by the club’s culture and its proximity to her home. “As I’m not getting any younger, it’s important to look after my body while still playing at a high level. Being closer to home helps with that,” she added.
Emily brings with her not just her skill on the field but also insights from her experience at Boorondara. “Last season at Boorondara was about a strong team culture and togetherness, which is hard to create but incredibly powerful. I see that Vince is fostering a similar culture here at the Royals,” she explained.
Sutcliffe is excited about the evolving landscape of the NPLW. “It’s an exciting time with new clubs coming in, changing the dynamics of the league. It’s going to be an even playing field where anything can happen,” she said, looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of the new season.
Emily is impressed with the Royals’ approach so far. “The clarity in Vince’s sessions, the objectives, and the welcoming nature of the girls have been fantastic. The focus on player wellbeing, strength, conditioning, and overall player care is a great package,” she concluded.
The Royals are thrilled to have a player of Emily’s calibre and experience join the squad, and we look forward to seeing her contributions in the upcoming season.
