The Essendon Royals are thrilled to announce the return of Jacinta Da Cruz to the Senior Women’s team for the 2024 season. After an unfortunate knee injury sidelined her for the entirety of 2023, Jacinta is back, stronger and more determined than ever.
Da Cruz, whose senior career was previously rooted at Keilor Park, joined the Royals in 2022 and quickly became a standout contributor to the club’s promotion from State League 1 to the VPL. Despite her injury in October 2022, Jacinta remained an integral part of the team, contributing off the field and embarking on a rigorous rehabilitation and strength conditioning program.
During her time away from the pitch, Jacinta embraced the role of junior coach, inspiring the next generation of Royals juniors and demonstrating her commitment to the club and its values. Her dedication to her recovery and development, coupled with her passion for grassroots development, embodies the spirit of the Royals family.
Reflecting on her journey, Jacinta shared, “The past two years have been an incredible journey. What the women’s program has achieved in such a short period of time is a testament to everyone at the club. I’m more motivated than ever to improve my game and take on this new challenge in the NPL.”
Looking ahead to the season, Jacinta is excited about the team’s prospects in their inaugural NPLW season. “There is a buzz in the air in our squad, and we can’t wait to hit the ground running. We will surprise teams with our play and our never-give-up attitude. Representing this club at the highest level is an honour, and I’m excited about this new challenge.”
The Royals are equally excited about Jacinta’s return, not just as a player but as a symbol of resilience, dedication, and the familial spirit of the club. As the team prepares for the NPLW season, Jacinta’s presence will undoubtedly be a beacon of inspiration and leadership.
