Welcome back, Will: Essendon Royals re-sign Will Thomason ahead of 2025 VPL2 season

Essendon Royals are pleased to announce the re-signing of young full-back Will Thomason to the senior men’s squad ahead of the 2025 VPL2 season.

After stints in the junior set-ups of Melbourne Victory, Port Melbourne Sharks, Western United, Melbourne Knights and in Oakleigh Cannons’ senior men’s squad, Thomason enjoyed a breakout campaign in his first season at the Royals, establishing himself as a starter from the onset.

Thomason scored twice in 21 appearances for the club, with both his goals coming in the most dramatic of circumstances. His first goal for the club was a late winner against Nunawading City back in April, before scoring a last minute equaliser in their home clash against Doveton in June.

The full-back’s performances caught the eye of the Sri Lanka men’s national team, who brought Thomason into camp prior to the October international window and is on track to debut for the Golden Army after becoming a dual-citizen.

Thomason joins VPL2 Golden Boot winner Jordan Adeyemi, club captain and VPL2 Players’ Player of the Year Graham Kelly and Irish striker Dean Clarke as the club’s re-signings ahead of the 2025 campaign.
