Essendon Royals are excited to welcome two promising young talents into our Senior Men’s squad for the 2025 season, as we continue to strengthen our ranks with a mix of experience and youthful energy.
Shabir Sawiz and Haysam Elias become our fourth and fifth new signings for 2025, following the announcements of returning junior Evan Markogiannakis, Vincent Nicoletti, and Rashid Hayek.

Shabir Sawiz is no stranger to the Royals, having spent years developing within our community and NPL junior setup before a short stint away from the club.
The Sawiz family has a long-standing connection with the Royals, with Shabir’s father having coached at the club and his siblings all coming through our junior ranks.
Now, Shabir is determined to take the next step, aiming to be the first of many in his family to represent the club at a senior level.
The talented youngster returns to Cross Keys Reserve eager to make his mark in 2025, bringing energy, skill, and a deep understanding of what it means to wear the Royals jersey.

Haysam Elias joins the Royals from VPL1 side Caroline Springs George Cross, where he was named in the senior squad multiple times last season.
A hungry, young midfielder, Elias is eager to earn more senior minutes in 2025 and bolster the squad’s midfield depth.
With a strong technical ability and a determined work ethic, Elias is ready to make an impact in the new season as the Royals push for success in VPL2.
We’re thrilled to welcome both Shabir and Haysam to the senior squad and can’t wait to see them in action for Season 2025!
