SENIORS

MEN

Essendon Royals fields three open age men’s teams:

  • Senior Men – VPL – 2 (Formerly NPL3)
  • U23 Men – VPL-2 (Formerly NPL3 U21)
  • Thirds Men – Metro North 8
 
Our Senior Men’s team is the club’s flagship male team. Trials are by invitation only. This team competes in the newly branded Victorian Premier League 2 competition (formerly NPL3). This is the third tier Senior Men’s football in Victoria.
 
Our U23s Men’s team operates as a bridge between our extensive junior program and Senior Men’s team. Young players (18-22) not currently playing at Essendon Royals and seeking their first exposure to VPL2 men’s football should enquire about potential opportunities via the Play At Royals page on our website.
 
Our Thirds Men’s team is a social team. Spots are extremely limited and wherever possible, priority is given to existing or former Royals players looking to enjoy open age football with the club. Enquire via the Play At Royals page on our website.

WOMEN

Essendon Royals fields three open age women’s teams:

  • Senior Women – NPL Victoria
  • U20s Women – NPL Victoria U20 
  • Development Squad – State League
 
Our Senior Women’s team is the club’s flagship female team. Trials are by invitation only, unless otherwise advertised. This team competes in NPL Victoria, the highest level of Senior Women’s football in the state of Victoria.

Our U20s Women team operates as a bridge between our extensive junior program and Senior Women’s team. Young players (16-20) not currently playing at Essendon Royals and seeking their first exposure to open age women’s football should enquire about potential opportunities via the Play At Royals page on our website.

Our Development Squad is for players too old for U20s football or still coming to grips with senior football and competes in State League 2 – the third highest division of Senior Women’s football in Victoria.

YOUTH

JUNIOR BOYS NPL

Essendon Royals has a current license to field teams in Football Victoria’s Junior Boys National Premier Leagues competition.

The Royals field teams in the following age groups:

  • Under-14
  • Under-15
  • Under-16
  • Under-18
 
The Royals JBNPL program supports talented young male footballers with their football development with extra training sessions, provided by professional coaches.
 
By participating in the JBNPL program, players will regularly be tested against the best players in their age group across the state.
 
JBNPL competition commences in February with an 11-game grading competition, played in local conferences, before teams are split into three different divisions in every age group, based on their results in the grading period.
 
The club must run a trials process every season to pick these squads.
 
Please note: The club hopes to be able to add a Junior Girls NPL offering in the coming seasons.

COMMUNITY BOYS

Essendon Royals community program offers fun football learning for players of all skill levels.

Our community boys program caters for under-7 teams right up to under-20 teams.

The Royals have had a long-standing tradition of providing a fun, inclusive environment for young boys, teenagers and young men looking to improve their skills and compete in Football Victoria competitions.

Our community program is split in two sections:

  • MiniRoos (U7-U12)
  • Juniors (U13-U20)

MiniRoos is perfect for kids starting their footballing journeys. The emphasis at this level remains on having fun, learning and developing football and social skills whilst making great friends.

U7-U9 teams play 7v7 format.

U10-12 teams play 9v9 format.

Our Juniors program caters for both the skill acquisition and game training phase of football.

All teams across our Community Boys program train twice a week (with the exception of Under-7 teams). 

COMMUNITY GIRLS

Essendon Royals community program offers fun football learning for players of all skill levels.

Our community girls program caters for under-7 teams right up to under-16 teams.

Our community girls program is the fastest-growing part of our club, as the Royals continue to grow this part of our club to meet the increasing demand for girls teams at every age grup.

Our community program is split in two sections:

Welcome to the Essendon Royals Kickstarters Program, where soccer is more than just a game – it’s a journey of fun, learning, and community. Our program, tailored for children aged 4 to 9, is the perfect starting point for young soccer enthusiasts to embark on their sporting adventure.

About the Program

The Essendon Royals Kickstarters Program, evolving from the MiniRoos Kick-Off Academy, offers a dynamic introduction to the world of soccer. Based on Football Federation Australia’s MiniRoos Kick-Off framework, our curriculum emphasises fun, inclusive, and engaging activities. Here’s what makes our program unique:

  • Age-Appropriate Curriculum: Each session is designed to suit the developmental needs of different age groups. We focus on simple yet stimulating drills and games that not only teach soccer skills but also encourage fundamental motor development.

  • Inclusive Environment: Every child gets ample time on the ball, ensuring that everyone is actively involved and enjoying their time on the pitch. Our program nurtures values like teamwork, cooperation, and respect for others.

  • Health and Fitness: Participating in soccer helps children stay active and healthy. It’s an excellent way to develop agility, coordination, and overall physical fitness.

  • Social Skills and Friendship: Our sessions are more than just soccer lessons; they’re a hub for making new friends and developing social skills in a supportive setting.

Program Details

  • Age Group: 4 to 9 years

  • Session Structure: Weekly 45-minute sessions, held on Saturdays

  • Venues: Ormond Park (Terms 1 & 4), Cross Keys Reserve (Terms 2 & 3)

  • Cost per Term: $220 (10% discount for full-year registration)

New in 2024:

  • Year-Round Registration: A convenient option for busy parents, with limited spots for the first 100 children.

  • Mandatory Uniforms: Enhancing team spirit, uniforms can be ordered from the Ultra Football Essendon Royals Club Store.

  • Kickstarters Sponsorships: An opportunity for local businesses to connect with our community and support the club. 

  • Midweek Kickstarters: Essendon Royals will run a pilot program of mid-week sessions in Term 1 2024.

Introducing Mid-Week Sessions:

We’re thrilled to announce a new addition to our 2024 Kickstarters Program – a mid-week session designed specifically for our younger soccer enthusiasts! This pilot program, launching in Term 1, offers an additional opportunity for children aged 4 to 6 to enjoy the fun and excitement of soccer.

  • Day and Time: Every Wednesday, from 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM.

  • Age Group: Exclusively for children aged 4 to 6.

  • Limited Spots: Open to just 30 children, ensuring personalised attention and a nurturing environment.

  • Pilot Program: This is a trial initiative for Term 1, 2024. Based on its success and feedback, we will consider its continuation throughout the year.

This mid-week session is perfect for parents looking for additional or alternative time slots for their children’s soccer activities. It’s also a great way for younger players to get more hands-on soccer experience in a supportive and age-appropriate setting.

CURRENT OPEN EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
