Women’s Match Report: Groba Strikes Late but Royals Fall to Bulleen

Our Women’s Match Reports Are Presented By Evado Studios

FC Bulleen Lions 3-1 Essendon Royals. Round 5. A tough afternoon at the Veneto Club, with the Royals chasing the game from the 16th minute.

Tiffany Eliadis gave Bulleen the lead early, and Maja Markovski doubled it in the 30th minute. 2-0 at the break, and the Royals had plenty of work to do.

Markovski completed her brace three minutes into the second half to make it 3-0, and the task became steeper still when Nia Saleh was sent off in the 63rd minute, leaving the Royals to play the final half hour with ten players.

To their credit, they kept going. Ava Groba pulled one back in the 82nd minute with a lovely finish into the far corner, but it came too late to change the outcome.

The Royals sit 9th after five rounds with six points. Two wins and three losses. Bulleen move to 6th on nine points. Boroondara Eagles lead the table on 13 points, with Box Hill United close behind on 12.

A frustrating afternoon, but Groba’s late strike at least gave the travelling support something to take home.

Forza Royals!
